Niger: AI and geospatial technologies for sustainable development week
The Artificial Intelligence and Geospatial Technologies Week (SIATEG) officially commenced on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at the Palais des Congrès in Niamey. Organized by the National Agency for the Information Society (ANSI) in collaboration with GeoMinds Africa, this event is themed « Artificial Intelligence and Geospatial Technologies: Catalysts for Progress and Sustainability in African Nations. » It highlights the transformative potential of cutting-edge technologies in advancing Niger’s development agenda.
During the opening ceremony, Sidi Mohamed Raliou, Minister of Communication, Posts, and Digital Economy, emphasized the strategic importance of integrating AI and geospatial tools to address development challenges.
“This platform is not just a showcase for advanced technologies but an opportunity to deliberate on how they can drive sustainable progress in our nation,” he stated.
The minister underscored Niger’s commitment to leveraging modern technology across various sectors, noting that AI and geospatial systems are critical for efficient resource management, urban planning, and achieving sustainability goals.
He also urged the youth and private sector to partner with public institutions to fully harness these technologies’ potential, envisioning a future of collective innovation and growth.
Ali Salatou Adji, ANSI’s Director General, reinforced the event’s alignment with the agency’s strategic priorities, including administrative modernization and fostering innovation.
SIATEG, he noted, will not only showcase local expertise but also facilitate knowledge exchange and tailor solutions to Niger’s unique needs.
As a platform for technological advancement, the event aims to accelerate digital transformation and sustainable development, marking a pivotal moment in the country’s technological journey.
