Niger: Under the leadership of General Abdourahamane Tiani, the country firmly takes back the reins of its destiny to assert its sovereignty
Under the leadership of General Abdourahamane Tiani, Niger is firmly committed to reclaiming control over its own destiny, implementing decisive actions to assert its sovereignty.
On Tuesday, November 12, 2024, the State Minister of Interior, Public Security, and Territorial Administration issued two decrees suspending the operations of the French NGO « Agency for Aid, Cooperation, and Development » (ACTED) and « Action for Well-Being » (APBE).
This move signifies a pivotal step in the Nigerien government’s efforts to regulate foreign influences within its borders.
Although these NGOs present themselves as humanitarian organizations, they are suspected of serving as destabilizing tools for France, allegedly infiltrated by the DGSE, France’s intelligence agency.
Since General Tiani’s rise to power, there has been heightened scrutiny over foreign entities, particularly those that, under the guise of humanitarian aid, may harbor ulterior geopolitical motives.
By banning ACTED and APBE, the Nigerien government has sent a clear signal that all foreign organizations must fully respect the nation’s security priorities and national interests.
This strategy reflects a commitment to strengthening national protection, prioritizing Niger’s internal security and independence over any external influence.
In a climate of strained relations with certain Western powers, this decision underscores a fortified stance on national sovereignty and a clear assertion of state authority regarding foreign NGOs.
Niger is making it known that it will no longer serve as a venue for foreign interests cloaked in humanitarian aims.
