Back to MMA: Francis Ngannou destroys Renan Ferreira in round 1

Back in MMA, Francis Ngannou defeated Brazilian Renan Ferreira by referee stoppage, winning the « Superfight » title.

Almost three years after his last MMA fight, Francis Ngannou beat Renan Ferreira in 3 minutes and 32 seconds on Saturday in Riyadh, marking his return to the cage under the PFL banner.

Very emotional, Ngannou dedicated his victory tohis son, who passed away last April at just 15 months old. « I was thinking about my son Kobe. I fought for him, » he said, with tears in his eyes.

The Cameroonian, who left the UFC last year, claimed the « Superfight » belt in his new organization. After a little over a minute of fighting, he took Ferreira to the ground and bombarded him with strikes, forcing the referee to stop the bout.

At 38 years old, Ngannou proves he remains a formidable fighter despite his absence from the cage and recent boxing losses. For this fight, he earned over $10 million according to Forbes, a significantly higher amount than his UFC earnings.

In his PFL debut, Ngannou faced Ferreira, an imposing opponent standing 2.03 meters tall and weighing 118.6 kg, but quickly took control. « It’s done; I did what I had to do, » Ngannou said after his victory, referencing the loss of his son.

Ngannou reaffirmed his desire to fight Jon Jones, the UFC heavyweight champion, a matchup that fans have been anticipating for years.
