Technology / Kaspersky analysis: More than 38 billion web tracking attempts in 2024

Kaspersky recently published an analysis of the most widespread web tracking services, revealing that application trackers collected data on user behavior in over 38 billion cases in 2024, with about one million attempts per day. The main services involved include those from Google, New Relic, and Microsoft.

Web tracking involves analyzing users’ online behavior, including data such as visited sites, session duration, and interactions (clicks, scrolling, mouse movements). This information allows companies to customize the user experience, target advertisements, and measure the performance of their services.

To assess the current state of web tracking, Kaspersky studied 25 popular tracking services, including several from Google (such as Google Analytics and AdSense) and others like Microsoft’s Bing. Over the course of a year, more than 38.7 billion attempts to collect data were detected.

Kaspersky offers a Do Not Track (DNT) feature that blocks these tracking tools. Anna Larkina, a security expert at Kaspersky, reminds users that although these technologies are often managed by giants, they should remain vigilant and protect their privacy by using appropriate measures.
