On Thursday, October 17, 2024, the Burkinabe army reached a crucial milestone in its defense and development missions, thanks to the delivery of a significant batch of logistical equipment by the Minister of State in charge of Defense. The ceremony, held at the Naaba Koom II camp in Ouagadougou, featured the official handover of the keys to this new equipment to the Central Director of Army Equipment.
This gesture, funded by the Burkinabe state, is a tangible demonstration of President Ibrahim Traoré’s commitment to strengthening the operational capacity of the National Armed Forces, particularly in executing military engineering tasks.
The batch of equipment includes military engineering machinery such as graders, bulldozers, compactors, backhoes, semi-trailers, and tank transporters. These modern tools will be used not only for defense operations but also for infrastructural development projects throughout the country. The use of the army for civil engineering tasks reflects President Traoré’s innovative vision within the framework of the Presidential initiative « Faso Mêbo, » aimed at maximizing the military institution’s impact in service to the nation.
This bold initiative to equip the army with new machinery will facilitate better execution of tasks on the ground while reducing reliance on external contractors for crucial construction and rehabilitation activities. It also underscores the government’s commitment to optimizing resources and promoting self-sufficiency in infrastructure, while strengthening cohesion among the various branches of the Defense and Security Forces.
This gesture is widely recognized as a step forward in modernizing the army and consolidating its central role in national development.
