Niger/Defence & Security: New Officers to Strengthen Nigerien Army

The Nigerien army has welcomed new officers, freshly graduated from the Military Officers’ Training School of the Nigerien Armed Forces (EFOFAN). This marks the 19th cohort from this military academy, who will now join the ranks in defending and securing the national territory and the AES (Alliance of Sahel States) region against any security threats.

After two years of intense activity and rigorous training, the 257 young officers, including 28 collateral officers and pilots, were honored on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, during an official ceremony at Air Base 101 in Niamey. According to military authorities, these officers are now fully prepared to serve the Nigerien nation with professionalism and calm.

It is worth noting that among these young officers are those from other neighboring and friendly countries such as Benin, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Mali, Senegal, Chad, and Togo. During their training, they underwent general military preparation, physical and sports training, and specific combat training to effectively face current security challenges.

For the collateral officers and pilots, the Nigerien military leadership views this as an effort to strengthen Niger’s military capabilities in the fight against terrorism and for the country’s sovereignty. Given the numerous challenges facing Niger and the AES region, the integration of new officers into the army will enhance their ability to address these challenges and effectively meet the population’s security needs.

The young officers were encouraged to remain united and embody the values inherited from national heroes, such as courage, determination, self-sacrifice, and patriotism, to ensure a successful mission in the supreme interest of the nation.
