Togo/Niger: The ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries remain strong and brotherly

The bilateral relations between the Republic of Togo and the sister Republic of Niger remain strong and continue to grow stronger over the months and years, to the benefit of their populations. The rise to power of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP) has further reinforced these historic ties of friendship and cooperation between the two brotherly countries.

This cooperation spans political, diplomatic, maritime, and economic domains, with increased trade relations in recent times, particularly following the ECOWAS embargo, which also included the closure of borders between community countries and Niger. It is within this framework of bilateral relations that a Nigerien delegation was dispatched on Monday, August 12, to meet with President Faure GNASSINGBE on behalf of his Nigerien counterpart.

The emissaries of the transitional president of Niger, Brigadier General Abdourahamane TIANI, brought a message of fraternity and solidarity. The CNSP president reiterated to his Togolese counterpart his fraternal feelings and the solidarity of the Nigerien people with the brotherly people of Togo.

It is worth noting that the Nigerien delegation’s visit to Lomé follows that of Burkina Faso just a few days earlier. The President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim TRAORE, also sent President Faure GNASSINGBE his message of fraternity and solidarity, along with his positive assessment of GNASSINGBE’s leadership on sub-regional issues. This marked a significant step in the consolidation of their bilateral relations.

This is one of the aspirations of African and especially Pan-African peoples, led by the revolutionary leaders of the three AES countries, to strengthen and enhance the bonds of friendship and cooperation between African nations. Their goal is to create an African solidarity capable of addressing the current challenges facing the continent in various sectors, starting with security, which plagues most countries and hinders their effective development.
