Sport: Novak Djokovic withdraws from the masters 1000 in Montreal – Focus on the Olympics and upcoming season

The world of tennis was shaken by the announcement that Novak Djokovic will not be participating in the Masters 1000 in Montreal, scheduled for August 6-12. The absence of the Serbian star, which was confirmed by tournament director Valérie Tétreault, has caused significant disappointment among fans and organizers.

« Even though we are disappointed that Novak cannot participate in the tournament this year, we understand his decision and wish him the best at the Olympics and for the rest of his season », said Tétreault.

The world No. 2 made a remarkable impression by qualifying for the third round of the Paris Olympics, held at Roland-Garros, after a decisive victory over Rafael Nadal, one of his greatest rivals, with a score of 6-1, 6-4. This result demonstrates his exceptional form despite his absence from Montreal.

Novak Djokovic, 37, and a holder of 24 Grand Slam titles, has won the Masters 1000 in Montreal four times in his career. However, he hasn’t participated in this tournament since 2018. His last notable match was the Wimbledon final, where he was defeated by Carlos Alcaraz.

Djokovic’s withdrawal from the Masters 1000 in Montreal opens a spot for Russian player Roman Safiullin, ranked 66th in the world, who will now join the main draw. The Montreal tournament will continue without one of its most iconic stars, but the tennis world remains focused on the upcoming stages of the season, with high expectations for Djokovic’s performances in the coming weeks.
