Togo: A growing regional hub thanks to president Faure Gnassingbé’s vision

Under the leadership of President Faure Gnassingbé, Togo is steadily progressing towards its vision of becoming a regional logistics hub. This ambition is being realized through strategic initiatives and reforms, solidifying the position of the Port of Lomé as a central element in the sub-region. Day and night, ships line the Togolese coast, showcasing the vibrancy of this port platform.

Another clear example of this progress is the passenger traffic at Lomé’s Gnassingbé Eyadema International Airport (AIGE), which continues to show strong performance. Last year, 1.4 million passengers were recorded, according to the latest available data. This figure is significantly higher than the 960.000 recorded in 2022, bringing the country closer to its goal of 1.5 million passengers by 2025, as outlined in the government’s roadmap.

This remarkable progress is due to several key factors. The inauguration of new routes by Ethiopian Airlines and Asky has increased the total number of destinations served from Lomé to 41. Additionally, the opening of the Lomé-Ouagadougou route by Liz Aviation has strengthened sub-regional and domestic traffic. Moreover, Togo has capitalized on its rapidly expanding tourism sector, hosting several major events in recent years following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Through these initiatives and reforms, President Faure Gnassingbé’s vision of making Togo a regional logistics hub continues to materialize, positioning the country as a key player in the region.
