Mali Strengthens Partnerships: Ratification of military cooperation agreement with Russia

To concretize President Assimi Goita’s vision of diversifying  the partnerships of Mali with respect and mutual benefit, the National Transitional Council (CNT) has adopted the bill ratifying the military and technical cooperation agreement between the Malian government and the Russian Federation.

This legislation, proposed by the Minister of Defense and Veterans, was previously approved by the Council of Ministers during its session on June 20, 2024.

The agreement encompasses the operation, repair, and modernization of delivered weapons and military equipment, as well as the provision of other military and technical services. It also includes the training of specialists for joint programs in military and technical cooperation. Additionally, it provides for the training of Malian military specialists in appropriate Russian schools, based on the needs and capabilities of both parties.

The law was unanimously adopted with 130 votes in favor, 0 against, and 0 abstentions. The agreement will enter into force from the date of the last written notification confirming the completion of the necessary internal national procedures by the parties, for a duration of five years.

This initiative strengthens ties between Mali and Russia while respecting President Assimi Goita’s vision of diversifying the country’s international partnerships.
