Niger/AES Summit: This confirms the complete break of the AES countries from the old sub-regional organization, ECOWAS
If the leaders of ECOWAS and the detractors of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) still had any hope of a possible return of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger to the sub-regional organization, that hope was completely dashed after the first summit of the heads of state of the Sahelian organization on Saturday, July 6th.
The three AES leaders, Captain Ibrahim TRAORE, Colonel Assimi GOÏTA, and General Abdourahamane TIANI, made significant decisions at this summit to ensure the proper functioning of their joint organization. They not only confirmed the effective creation of the AES confederation but also celebrated their irrevocable and immediate withdrawal from ECOWAS.
The adoption on July 6th of the treaty establishing the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) confederation by the heads of state and the internal regulations of the AES confederation’s council of heads of state demonstrates their determination to move forward together for the security, liberation, sovereignty, and effective development of their respective countries.
The creation of this confederation embodies their shared will to work together and pool efforts and resources to effectively address the many challenges facing their states and common area, particularly security challenges, socioeconomic development, the integration of peoples, and diplomacy.
This organization primarily reflects the leaders of AES, revolutionary leaders, and their desire to protect their countries from any external influence, Western imperialism, and French neocolonialism.
Regarding the impacts of their withdrawal from ECOWAS, particularly concerning the free movement of goods and people, the AES heads of state are aware of these issues and are addressing them for the well-being of their peoples.
