Mali: Inauguration of an agro-food complex by President Assimi Goïta this Tuesday

On Tuesday, July 2, 2024, the President of Mali inaugurated a large agro-industrial complex established by former Malian footballer Seydou Keita in Sanankoroba, approximately 30 kilometers from Bamako.

Built on an area of 7 hectares, the « Seydou Diogo et Awa – SDA Complex » consists of six production units, representing an investment of 14 billion CFA francs. The factory will create over 400 direct jobs and more than 10.000 indirect jobs.

The former Barcelona midfielder and Captain of the Mali national team is now poised to tackle the Malian and African markets. The company is a limited liability company with a share capital of three billion CFA francs. It comprises six industrial production units, including a shea butter production unit with a capacity of 100 tons per day and a plastic canister manufacturing unit producing 6.000 units per day.

The complex also includes a unit for the production of edible vegetable oil, cake, and livestock feed with a capacity of 120 tons per day, a soap production unit, and a unit for producing soybean, peanut, and cottonseed oil with a capacity of 100 tons per day.

The entire complex is powered by a two-megawatt photovoltaic solar power plant that more than meets the factory’s electricity needs. This power plant is capable of generating a surplus that can be sold, according to the CEO of the SDA complex.

According to Moussa Alassane Diallo, Minister of Industry and Commerce, the agro-industrial complex aims to develop, as upstream sources of raw material supply for the factory, diversification crops such as soybeans, sesame, and peanuts. This will, he says, create an agro-pole and establish an economic link between local producers and the SDA complex.
