Togo: Launch of the 4th edition of togolese handicrafts days

In Togo, this Friday, June 28, 2024, the Minister of Commerce, Handicrafts, and Local Consumption, Kayi Mivedor-Sambiani, launched the activities of the 4th edition of the Togolese Handicrafts Days (JAT) under the theme: « Handicrafts, a Driver of Togo’s Economic and Social Development. »

This edition, running from June 28 to July 10, aims to highlight the government’s actions concerning handicrafts since 2010. It will also provide the public with opportunities to discover the country’s potential in artisanal production and services. These days are also set to revitalize disappearing trades and promote new ones to more effectively contribute to the creation of national wealth.

Specifically, this edition will include reforestation operations in all prefectures, mini fairs promoting Togolese products, debate conferences, awareness and information sessions, as well as sanitation activities in hospitals and craft chambers.

According to Minister Mivedor-Sambiani, Togolese handicrafts present enormous potential that, if wisely exploited, could make this sector a valuable tool for economic growth and social cohesion. « Handicrafts are currently in such a dynamic that they can be rightfully considered one of the essential levers for our country’s economic, social, and cultural development », she stated at the launch.

The government urges artisans to engage in collective reflection on the challenges their sector still faces, to question themselves, and to make the necessary adjustments to overcome the difficulties inherent in its development.
