FIFA: When Real Madrid announces its withdrawal from the Club World Cup

FIFA trembles. The continent’s giant, Real Madrid, has announced that it will not participate in the new format of the Club World Cup in 2025. The Club World Cup will adopt a new format starting with the next edition in 2025. Unlike previous editions, 32 teams will participate in the upcoming tournament. However, Real Madrid is unlikely to take part, barring any surprises.

In contrast to previous editions where 24 teams were expected, 32 teams will participate in the FIFA Club World Cup from 2025 onwards. Among these teams, 12 European teams are expected to compete. The winners of the Champions League from 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 (Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Manchester City) will be included.

The other nine (9) qualified European teams are Paris Saint-Germain, Salzburg, Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Juventus Turin, FC Porto, Benfica Lisbon, and Atlético Madrid. These teams were determined based on a ranking established from the results of the last four seasons.

The conflict between Real Madrid and FIFA is far from over. Despite winning the Champions League this season, Real Madrid does not plan to participate in this tournament, which will gather 32 teams. In an interview with II Giornale, Real Madrid’s coach announced that the Spanish champion club will not be in the United States for the next Club World Cup.

« FIFA forgets that players and clubs will not participate in this tournament. A single match of Real Madrid is worth 20 million, and FIFA wants to give us this sum for the entire cup. No way. Like us, other clubs will reject the invitation », stated Carlo Ancelotti.

The call has been made. It remains to be seen if other European clubs will follow Real Madrid in this fight.
