Togo Develops its National Spatial Planning Scheme: Towards an inclusive and sustainable future
The Togolese government, in its ongoing quest to improve the quality of life for its citizens, is currently focusing on spatial planning. This initiative aims to develop and implement various tools, created by experts after consultation with different national development stakeholders. The National Spatial Planning Scheme (SNAT), nearly a year and a half after the commencement of the work, is about to become a reality.
For five days, these efforts, led by the Ministry of Development Planning and Cooperation, will allow for the examination of the various tools designed by the experts. These consultations include state actors, local authorities, civil society, the private sector, traditional chieftaincy, as well as technical and financial partners. The goal is to gather final recommendations and opinions to finalize the document.
Once adopted, the national spatial planning scheme will serve as a guide for government decisions, thereby improving the coherence and synergy of sectoral policies and strategies. This will enable a harmonious, balanced, and sustainable management of the national space.
The SNAT aims to be a key instrument for Togo’s sustainable development, aiming to include all segments of the population and address socio-economic and environmental challenges. By bringing together a diversity of actors to design and validate this scheme, the Togolese government demonstrates its commitment to building an inclusive and prosperous future for all its citizens.
