Niger/ Côte d’Ivoire: Air Côte d’Ivoire resumes flights to Niamey

After nearly ten months of suspension due to the coup d’etat on July 26, 2023, Air Côte d’Ivoire has resumed its flights to Niamey, Niger. This decision by the airline is confirmed by the inaugural flight on Tuesday, May 28, 2024.

The Nigerien airspace is once again open for Air Côte d’Ivoire. Closed since the overthrow of the Mohamed Bazoum regime, the connection between these two countries is restored.

This resumption follows the lifting of sanctions imposed by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) in February 2024. This new air link revives commercial exchanges and strengthens ties between the two neighboring nations.

Some argue that the resumption of Air Côte d’Ivoire flights to Niamey is evidence of the resilience of the two countries in the face of challenges encountered and their commitment to maintaining dynamic cooperation. According to them, this decision to resume flights demonstrates the willingness of Ivorian and Nigerien authorities to stimulate economic growth and promote exchanges. This resumption, it is said, will have a direct positive impact on the populations of both countries.

Business travelers and tourists will now be able to travel more easily between Abidjan and Niamey. This promotes commercial exchanges, tourism, and interpersonal relationships. This decision will enable Ivorian and Nigerien companies to forge more partnerships and explore new business opportunities. In addition to contributing to the diversification of the economies of both countries and the creation of jobs.
