DRC: Judith Suminwa’s new government has been reshuffled and strengthened

In the early hours of Wednesday, May 29, 2024, Prime Minister Judith Suminwa unveiled the composition of her new government. Comprising 54 members, this ministerial team includes six Deputy Prime Ministers, nine Ministers of State, and four Delegated Ministers. The strategic reshuffle aims to enhance government efficiency and address the current challenges facing the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Several ministers retain their current portfolios, ensuring continuity in key sectors:

  • Jean-Pierre Lihau: Retained in his current position.
  • Eve Bazaiba: Keeps her portfolio.
  • Augustin Kibasa: Remains in place.
  • Patrick Muyaya: Keeps his post.

However, the reshuffle has also led to significant changes:

  • Jean-Pierre Bemba: Moves from the Ministry of National Defense to the Ministry of Transport and Communication Channels.
  • Jean Lucien Bussa: Leaves External Trade for the Portfolio Ministry.
  • Julien Paluku: Appointed to External Trade, replacing Jean Lucien Bussa.

The government welcomes several new members, each bringing skills and fresh perspectives to the ministries they will lead:

  • Jacquemin Shabani: Deputy Prime Minister of the Interior.
  • Guy Kabongo Mwadiamvita: Minister of National Defense.
  • Daniel Samba Mokoko: Minister of National Economy.
  • Guylain Nyembo: Minister of Planning and Development Aid Coordination.

The ministerial reshuffle comes in the context of significant socio-economic and security challenges for the DRC.

Judith Suminwa’s new government is a combination of continuity and renewal.
