Niger: Military exercises by AES, Togo and Chad. President calls for regional cooperation against terrorism

In the countries of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), the struggle to reclaim territories continues vigorously with the establishment of the joint force. This force, created to conduct large-scale operations in the Sahel, has begun military exercises since May 20 to increase its operational capacity in the context of its mission to secure the three countries of the AES.

The military exercises , taking place at the Special Forces Training Center in Tilia, northern Niger, in the area of the three borders where jihadist groups operate, aims to enhance the operational capabilities and resilience of the AES Armed Forces against all potential threats. Togo and Chad have joined this military exercise.

These military initiatives, in partnership with Togo and Chad, reflect the regional cooperation advocated by Togolese President Faure Gnassingbé, to better contain terrorism in the sub-region. They aim to enhance the interoperability of the military forces of these countries, thus strengthening ties with local populations.

This first military maneuver among the five countries is one of the alternatives found by the AES to the security crisis, after ending military partnerships with France and recently, Niger with the United States.
