DRC: The 2nd edition of the Amani Festival postponed to November 2024
The Amani Festival, a major cultural event in the Kivu region, has its tenth edition postponed once again. Initially scheduled for February, as usual, it was first moved to June 2023. Now, it will finally take place in Goma in November. This information comes from a press release published by the organizers on Wednesday, May 15 of this year.
The increase in violence around the city, including recent attacks by M23 that resulted in several deaths, has forced the organizers to delay the event again. « Due to the postponement of the Amani Festival in February to 9 days before the initially planned dates of February 16-18, 2024, the organization announces another delay of a few more weeks. The tenth edition of the Amani Festival will now take place from November 14-17, 2024, in Goma », states the press release.
Since 2022, insecurity in the region has prevented the festival from being held on its usual dates. The 2023 edition was exceptionally held in Bukavu. While waiting for the new festival date, several activities are planned to keep the public engaged and active.
An entrepreneurship competition, initially planned for February, will take place on June 27, 2024. Additionally, meetings between Amani entrepreneurs will be held every two months starting in June, covering various topics to help develop their activities.
On June 21, the Blindtest Rumba Congolaise playlist contest will launch, in partnership with Troto. This contest will celebrate the richness of Congolese music and involve the public in this interactive experience.
On July 1, the mobile short film competition will begin, focusing on themes such as the environment, fashion culture (sapologie), volunteering, and respect for public property. Submitted videos should highlight innovative initiatives that address these issues, showcasing key actors and the challenges they have overcome.
