Togo : Chinese Foreign Minister’s visit to Lomé consolidates Sino-Togolese cooperation

Sino-Togolese cooperation has recently strengthened with the visit of the Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi, to Lomé on January 16, 2024. This meeting provided an opportunity for both nations to consolidate their fruitful partnership, marked by a history of strong cooperation.

During his African tour from January 13 to 18, 2024, the Chinese minister was warmly welcomed by his Togolese counterpart, Professor Robert Dussey. Discussions focused on various aspects of bilateral cooperation, highlighting the mutual commitment to work together to promote a future of shared prosperity.

China, determined to strengthen its international influence, sees Africa as a strategic region. The traditional visit of the Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs to Africa, marking the 34th consecutive year, underscores the importance given to the continent in Chinese foreign policy.

Sino-Togolese cooperation extends beyond the diplomatic realm to substantial economic partnerships. China remains one of Togo’s major economic partners, contributing to the country’s economic development.

This new phase in Sino-Togolese cooperation strengthens ties between the two nations and paves the way for future collaboration opportunities in various sectors, emphasizing the ongoing relevance of this alliance for both parties.
