Africa/China: Beginning This Saturday Of The African Tour Of The Head Of Chinese Diplomacy

As announced by the spokesman of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Mao Ning, the Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi begins today Saturday, January 13, his diplomatic tour in four African countries.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will travel through Egypt, then Turkey, to the other two African countries on the program, Togo and Côte d’Ivoire. This will take him a total of six (06) days, according to the information, from January 13 to 18, 2024.

It is a tradition established since 1991: the first trip of the year of the Chinese Foreign Minister invariably begins with Africa, with the preparation of the Forum for Sino-African Economic Cooperation (FOCAC), according to Mao Ning.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visit aims to coordinate the new session of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum and strengthen the momentum of unity and cooperation between China and Africa. He will be in Tunisia from 14 to 16 January, Tunisian media reported.

After his African tour, Wang Yi will extend his trip to Brazil and Jamaica, where he will stay from January 18 to 22, Mao added. The choice of Togo as part of this tour is logical. Lomé and Beijing have close political and economic relations.
