Togo allocates CFAF 18 billion for water supply in 2024, continuing its quest for universal coverage by 2030
In 2024, Togo maintains its vision of achieving universal water coverage by 2030 and plans to invest CFAF 18 billion in this initiative, as indicated in the 2024 finance law. This budget allocation represents an increase of 5.8% compared to 2023, set at 17 billion FCFA in the amending finance law. These funds are intended to support drinking water projects already underway.
The implementation of the national drinking water supply plan, launched in February 2021, will take on a new dimension in 2024. Phase 3 of the Kara and Savannah Regions School and Rural Health Improvement Project (PASSCO3) will begin with the planned construction of 850 boreholes equipped with human-powered pumps. This initiative aims to provide access to safe drinking water to more than 200,000 rural people by the end of 2025.
Efforts to improve water supply in the capital, Lomé, and its surroundings will be intensified with the work of equipping and connecting the 40 m3 per hour borehole in Apédokoe, as well as the construction of a new 1300 m3 water tower in Sagbado.
In addition, the operational phase of the Urban Water Security Project in Togo (PaSH-MUT), launched in October 2023, could also begin. This project aims to set up 6 autonomous drinking water supply systems in the peripheral areas of Lomé.
It should be noted that according to the latest data from the Ministry of Water and Village Hydraulics, the national water service rate reached 67% at the end of 2022.
