Burkina Faso : President I. Traoré at war against corruption and administrative slowness

For the year 2024, President of the Transition I.Traoré, Head of State, emphasized two major issues that he aims to eliminate within the Burkinabé administration : corruption and administrative sluggishness. During a meeting with the staff of the Presidency of Burkina Faso and related services on Monday, President Ibrahim Traoré highlighted the importance of addressing these issues, considering them as bottlenecks in the Burkinabé administration.

« This meeting is of utmost importance because corruption and administrative slowness constitute a bottleneck in the Burkinabé administration. If there are people who should convey the ideology we defend, it is you working at the central level. Over the past 15 months, you have observed many things with me in the administration, and you have also witnessed the evolution of the security situation. At the beginning of this year, it is necessary to give ourselves a fresh start for the institution and the entire country », stated President Ibrahim Traoré.

He acknowledged the progress in the fight against terrorism but pointed out that certain aspects, such as corruption and administrative slowness, have not seen significant improvement. The President emphasized that efforts have been made to sensitize and communicate with people to foster understanding, both in the military and civilian spheres.

President I.Traoré declared that any proven act of corruption or laxity in the public administration will not go unpunished. He insisted that everyone must fulfill the mission for which they were recruited and criticized the misuse of regulations to prevent rightful dismissals.

The President also denounced a practice where external firms are consistently hired to carry out tasks that should be executed by public administration officials. These officials are often solicited secretly and remunerated by these firms, with which they frequently have connections. President Ibrahim Traoré vowed to put an end to such practices, describing them as theft and deception. He emphasized the need to establish disciplinary councils at all levels within the administration to ensure that errant employees are appropriately punished.
