DRC : The CENI invalidates the election of 82 deputies, for acts of fraud

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) announced on Friday its decision to invalidate the elections of 82 candidates for national and provincial deputies due to electoral fraud during the voting operations on December 20th across the entire national territory.

The ruling party, UDPS (Union for Democracy and Social Progress), openly distanced itself from all its candidates involved in this matter, aiming to protect its dignity and honor.

In its report, the CENI listed acts of fraud, intimidation, and corruption committed by candidates affiliated with the political party of the re-elected President Félix Tshisekedi during the legislative and provincial elections. The votes in two constituencies were nullified.

On the other hand, the opposition expressed its satisfaction in a statement released on Saturday regarding the decision by the CENI. It encouraged the electoral commission to continue in the same momentum to consolidate the achievements of democracy.

This decision reflects the commitment of the CENI to serve the nation impartially, already demonstrated through transparent and peaceful presidential elections.
