Burkina Faso : President Ibrahim Traoré strengthens national security with the creation of the Special Brigade and Rapid Intervention

In a determined effort to realize his vision for a peaceful and prosperous Burkina Faso, President Ibrahim Traoré announced on Friday the creation of the Special Rapid Intervention Brigade, a large-scale joint operational unit elevated to the status of an army.

The creation decree, signed by the President himself, reveals the details of this new security force. The Special Rapid Intervention Brigade consists of a cabinet, a headquarters, a Special Forces Grouping (SFG), and Rapid Intervention Groupings (RIG). It also includes a Republican Guard (RG), a Command and Support Assistance Grouping (CSAG) comprising specific units, as well as a Campaign and Rapid Intervention Artillery Battalion (CRIB).

Among its components are the Rapid Aerial Intervention Squadron (RAIS), a Rapid Intervention Armored Battalion (RIAB), a Command and Support Assistance Battalion (CSAB), and a Center for Training and Improvement of Special and Rapid Intervention Units (CTISRIU).

The primary mission of this newly formed brigade is to actively combat terrorism throughout the national territory, using special operations and rapid interventions. According to the presidential decree, the Special Rapid Intervention Brigade will contribute to securing the national territory, ensuring the protection of institutions, sensitive installations, as well as high-profile personalities. Furthermore, it will participate in missions abroad in accordance with existing bilateral or multilateral agreements.

President Ibrahim Traoré’s initiative demonstrates his commitment to national security and his determination to confront current challenges. By strengthening rapid response capabilities and investing in specialized units, Burkina Faso under the leadership of Captain Ibrahim Traoré strives to ensure peace and prosperity for its citizens while contributing to regional stability.
