Niger: Colonel-Major Chaibou Idrissa takes oath as new director-general of ARCEP, strengthening telecommunications regulation
The Colonel-Major Chaibou Idrissa, recently appointed Director-General of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications and Post (ARCEP) in Niger, took the oath during a solemn hearing at the Court of Appeal in Niamey. As head of ARCEP, he will be responsible for regulating the telecommunications sector to promote the development of the digital economy and contribute to the country’s progress.
The swearing-in ceremony brought together members of the Court of Appeal, officials, as well as executives and staff of ARCEP, in the presence of Colonel-Major Chaibou Idrissa’s relatives. The Vice-President of the Court of Appeal, Boukary Sally Ibrahim, emphasized the legal significance of the oath for ARCEP officials, highlighting the commitment to perform duties with integrity and in compliance with the law.
Colonel-Major Chaibou Idrissa, a telecommunications specialist officer and a graduate of the Institute of Advanced Studies in Defense in Rome, brings to his new position extensive military and professional experience. Having held various positions of responsibility within the Nigerien Army and in international missions, he also holds degrees in Strategic Military International Relations and Human Resources Management.
ARCEP, as an independent institution, is responsible for regulating electronic communications and postal services in Niger. It ensures the enforcement of laws and regulations, safeguards the interests of the state, users, and operators, and promotes the balanced and financial development of regulated sectors. ARCEP enjoys legal personality and financial autonomy.
