The 12th congress of the Organization of African Trade Union Unity concluded on Sunday in Algiers, Algeria
On Saturday, November 18th, the 12th congress of the African Trade Union Unity Organization (OUSA) began in Algiers for two days under the theme «Strengthening trade union action in the face of employment changes and new challenges in Africa». The congress was held under the high patronage of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
More than 100 union delegates representing nearly 50 African states and international figures participated in this congress.Its purpose was to highlight the role of trade unions in addressing employment changes and contributing to overcoming new challenges in Africa. The event emphasized the significant role of Algeria in this field.
Presiding over the congress, the Minister of Labor, Employment, and Social Security, Fayçal Bentaleb, stated that Algeria «continues with ongoing socio-economic reforms, notably the 2020 Constitution, which further guarantees individual and collective rights and freedoms, including the exercise of trade union rights».
«Algeria is working to strengthen mechanisms for economic recovery through the promotion of investment and partnerships to achieve equitable development, establishing an environment conducive to innovation and entrepreneurship, especially for youth and women. Additionally, the focus is on developing small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) and startups to achieve progress» he added.
He also recalled a series of social measures initiated by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune aimed at protecting the purchasing power of citizens.In the final statement released on Sunday, the participants at the congress expressed their «gratitude to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for his high patronage of the congress, which was a success at all levels».
They affirmed that Algeria stood as a key player in favor of unity, cooperation, and development, considering its initiatives for the African continent.The final statement also recalled the initiative of the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation for Solidarity and Development (AACISD), dedicated to financing development projects in African countries.
It emphasized that holding this event in Algeria reaffirmed the country’s commitment to its historical principles and values regarding workers and people in Africa, as well as its cooperation for the socio-economic prosperity of the continent.
