Nuclear energy could play a potential role in Mali’s energy diversification and energy independence, according to information from a recent ministerial delegation in Moscow. According to Mr. Mamoudou Sissoko, nuclear energy offers considerable economic and strategic benefits for Mali.
From an economic point of view, the adoption of nuclear energy in Mali would make it possible to diversify energy production, thus reducing dependence on current fossil fuels. Although initial construction costs are high, long-term operating costs would be relatively low, which would stabilize electricity prices. In addition, the construction and operation of nuclear power plants would create local jobs and stimulate the nuclear technology industry. Mali could also consider exporting electricity, generating additional income and employment opportunities.
