Togo: Launch of the 1st edition of the Peace and Security Forum in Lomé
Start this Saturday, October 21 of the 1st edition of «Lomé Peace and Security Forum» with the theme «how to strengthen the political transitions towards democratic governance in Africa»?
This 2-day meeting is an African forum for exchange, discussion and sharing of experiences on peace, security and the future of Africa. Representatives of African and other governments, diplomats, security actors, high-level experts and researchers on peace and security issues are expected to attend. Civil society actors, the media, regional and international business organizations and youth and women’s organizations will also take part.
The aim is to develop a new way of understanding and interpreting political transitions. It aims to strengthen democratic governance on the African continent, beyond formal language.
Participants will discuss, among other things, the factors that weaken institutions in Africa, the political challenges of consolidating democratic governance in the transitional and security periods facing the ongoing political transitions on the continent. The role of regional and international organisations in supporting political transitions will also be discussed. Recommendations on peacebuilding, strengthening the African security system and democratic governance will be formulated
Togo’s commitment to peace and stability in Africa is well known. By launching «Lome Peace and Security Forum» the Togolese Government, in accordance with the vision of H.E.M. Faure Essozimna GNASSINGBE, President of the Republic, intends to establish a new African framework for exchange, discussion and sharing of experiences on peace, the security and future of Africa.
