Niger: Government fully supports Dasa uranium project
In Niger, the transitional government led by General Abdourhamane Tiani has confirmed its full support for Global Atomic Corporation’s Dasa uranium project, according to an official announcement made on Monday, October 16. Thus, contrary to speculation that announced its closure, the project is still on the right track for its first deliveries of yellowcake in 2025.
Canada is not following the US decision, and the project is not affected by the recent suspension of funding from the American Development Bank and other sources following the coup d’état on July 26.
Toronto-based Global Atomic, in full operation of the Dasa high-grade uranium deposit 105 km south of Arlit, said it was working on a “contingency plan with interested parties for non-dilutive financing options at the operational level”, from groups interested in purchasing uranium from the mine.
Uranium purchase agreements with utilities remain unchanged despite the US State Department’s decision. Nigerien people are looking forward to the benefits of uranium mining. There are many hopes that a nuclear power plant could soon be built, providing a source of electricity for the population.
