Togo/IFC: Josiane Kwenda discusses her terms of reference with Prime Minister Victoire Tomégah-Dogbé
The new representative of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), accredited to Togo and three (03) other African countries, was received by the Prime Minister, Victoire Tomegah-Dogbé, at the end of last week.
A first meeting at the primature, after his appointment last July, at the head of the IFC, a branch of the World Bank Group, dedicated to financing SME/ SMI in Togo as in most countries in Africa.
Discussions between the two personalities focused on the commitment of the financial institution and the priorities for implementing the programme to support the Togolese economy.
This involves support from the World Bank for the development and modernisation of Togo in various joint sectors, notably electricity, water and access to financing for SME/SMI, in order to accelerate the development of the Togolese private sector, which is so essential to the authorities.
For a number of years now, the Togolese government has been committed to promoting entrepreneurship among young people and women, which is included in the government’s roadmap. Support mechanisms have been put in place, especially to facilitate financing or loan applications for young entrepreneurs.
There are huge plans for economic development and the modernisation of the country in certain key areas. Financial support from the International Finance Corporation over the past few years has enabled most of these projects to get off the ground and achieve the expected results.
According to reports, the World Bank’s International Finance Corporation opened its doors in Togo in 2019 and currently has a portfolio valued at 450 million CFA francs. Josiane Kwenda also represents the IFC in Benin, Côte d’Ivoire and Guinea.
