Burkina-Faso: Evrard Somda must confess in prison

As part of the investigations into the attempt to destabilise the regime of Captain Ibrahim Traoré, a woman working for the intelligence services was able to extract information from the former Deputy Director General of the ANR. According to information relayed by Sahel 24, Evrard Somda «boasted of the success of a coup d’etat project» although there is no such thing as «success».

Following these revelations, the Juda who boasts of having betrayed his people, claiming that «this coup d’etat was inevitable», is to be arrested for offences against state security and sentenced to life imprisonment.

However, he will not be eligible for a reduced sentence until he confesses.

With such serious revelations, a simple dismissal would be a danger to the Republic.

Moreover, he acknowledges that «all the necessary resources had been mobilised». It is therefore crucial for the transitional authorities to decide quickly on Evrard Somda’s fate before he is exiled from the country by those who really ordered his arrest.

Investigations have also revealed that the Chief of Staff of the Gendarmerie and the Head of Ivorian Intelligence were involved in the attempt to destabilise the country.

The reaction of the authorities to launch a large-scale operation to track down and spy on the personalities whose names have been mentioned in the affair is certainly legitimate, but Evrard Somda, who some people close to him were even claiming that «IB» (…) «was going to be overthrown» must be put behind bars to allow him to get things off his chest.

From his prison cell, he will be able to serve as a useful informer on the manoeuvres of those seeking to destabilise the current government.

It is the ultimate way for him to redeem himself for his treason against the people of Burkina Faso and its institutions.

So there will be no question of simply inviting Evrard Somda to demonstrate integrity, trust and a public apology.

On the sidelines of this affair, Captain Ibrahim Traoré must hold close meetings with ANR officials in particular and the army in general to strengthen ties against external aggression.
