Togo: Dengue and Chikungunya epidemics, Prof Moustafa Mijiyawa invites the population to be vigilant

Faced with the epidemics of Dengue and Chikungunya, which are increasingly recurrent in West Africa, in a statement issued on Thursday, September 28, 2023, the Togolese Minister of Health and Public Hygiene, Prof Moustafa Mijiyawa invited the population to be vigilant.

These two diseases(Dengue and Chikungunya) that are transmitted by mosquito bites are usually manifested by non-specific signs namely fever, intense weakness, headache, joint or muscle pain, nausea, vomiting, rashes. Signs that may or may not be accompanied by bleeding with serious health complications.

Faced with this situation, the Ministry of Health in Togo has taken steps to organize the management of possible cases, maintain the alert level and strengthen border surveillance. Public awareness actions are also planned on how to deal with signs of suspicion.

In addition, Minister Moustafa Mijiyawa, invites the Togolese population to adopt preventive measures including sleeping under impregnated mosquito nets by wearing clothes that cover the body as much as possible, destroy the larval deposits contained in the cans, kitchen utensils thrown inside and around the houses. Waste disposal and environmental remediation must also be regular.

Recall that these two diseases can be cured if they are detected and managed early in a health center.
