Burkina Faso/Transport: The Burkina Faso road network has improved significantly with the Transition

When he came to power, the Transition president captain TRAORE (MPSR) embarked on a program to develop Burkina Faso’s road infrastructure. The aim is to improve traffic flow, reduce the risk of accidents, improve the accessibility of landlocked areas and strengthen national and regional connectivity.

To this end, several road projects have been completed, others are in progress and others will start shortly. This is part of the strategy for the development of the transport sector in general and the improvement of urban mobility in particular, implemented by the MPSR.

These works range from the asphalting and widening of roads, such as that of the national N°4 and the access road to the Thomas Sankara University, to the rehabilitation and development of most rural roads across the country, and also the maintenance of roads already open to traffic.

In April 2023, for example, the president of the Transition head of State, Captain Ibrahim TRAORE had launched the work of bituminous of the National N°11, on the section Gaoua-Batié of 68 km, with a total cost of 19 billion CFA francs.

The national road N°14 between Sakoinsé and Koudougou, was also rehabilitated and several other loan works of 500 rural roads were carried out in 10 regions of Burkina by the transition in 01 year.

As a reminder, in the period from April to May, the transition had launched 04 other road development projects estimated at 13 billion CFA francs. Other road works have slowed down due to insecurity and will be resumed shortly, in October.
