Togo: Me Djovi Gally bowed out, after having fought the good fight

Me Djovi Gally is no more. The politician, former minister of transition and lawyer by profession has just left the world of the living on Wednesday, September 27 in Germany following a long illness. Since the announcement of this sad news by his family, the messages of tribute and testimonies on the life of the illustrious disappeared continue to rain on social networks.

Djovi Gally is undoubtedly one of the best lawyers in Togo. A founding member of the Togolese Union for Democracy (UTD), he was Minister of Human Rights and the Promotion of Democracy during the political transition (1991-1993), close collaborator of the late Prime Minister Edem Kodjo, before collaborating with Gilchrist Olympio, as an advisor.

Mr. Gally was also instrumental in the creation of several associations of democratic forces.

He held the reins of two organizations: the Association for the Promotion of the Rule of Law (APED) and the Pan-African Democracy Observatory (OPAD), based in Lomé. In 2016, he was made an officer of the Legion of Honor in France.

For the majority of Togolese, the former transitional minister, very early engaged in the fight for human rights, the rule of law and democracy in the time of the single party, fought the good fight for decades, just like his colleague Madji Yawovi Agboyibo.

It should be noted that before dying on September 27 at 68, Me Djovi Gally has suffered for several years from various pathologies.
