Mali: The call for peace and stability

This initiative comes at a crucial time in the history of Mali, marked by growing security challenges and regular attacks on civilians and security forces. The main parties behind this initiative are URD, ADEMA and RPM.

Some wonder whether this move is intended to mark their place in Mali’s political history, while others think it could be a way to make a gesture to President Assimi Goita, president of the transition. However, the appeal does not explicitly mention the timeliness of the transition.

The signing of many political parties to this call can be interpreted as an attempt to recall their existence and to draw the attention of the transitional authorities, especially with regard to their potential role in the future government. However, the absence of mention of the respect of the transition deadline in the call raises questions among observers, because the political transition must follow a precise timetable.

The appeal strongly condemns the barbaric and inhumane attacks against civilians and security forces and expresses its support to the Malian Armed Forces (FAMA). The signatory parties also call for the resolution of conflicts through dialogue and consultation, while expressing concern at the continued deterioration of security in the country.

It is clear that the lack of reference to the respect of the transition deadline in this appeal raises questions about the intentions of the signatory political parties and their position regarding the duration of the political transition in Mali. Some question whether these political parties are prepared to support an extension of the transition in exchange for ministerial posts, despite potential sanctions from ECOWAS and the international community.

Ultimately, the initiative aims to promote peace and stability in Mali, but it sparks debates about the real motivations of the political parties involved.
