Burkina Faso: A Busy Weekend for Captain Ibrahim Traoré and His Government in the Hauts-Bassins Region

The Head of State, Ibrahim Traoré, visited Ouezzin-Coulibaly camp on the afternoon of Saturday, September 23, 2023. He was there to meet with the brave and dedicated men and women from various military units in the region.

During his speech, he praised and commended them for their determination and commitment in defending the nation. The Captain also assured them about the implementation of suitable measures to help them carry out their mission effectively. This meeting followed the ceremony for the laying of the foundation stone.

Indeed, the transitional president, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, accompanied by members of the government, laid the foundation stone on Saturday, September 23, for the construction of a Tomato Processing Plant. The construction of the plant has now officially begun and is estimated to cost five (05) billion CFA francs.

Situated on the Bindougousso site in the municipality of Bobo-Dioulasso, the Tomato Processing Plant covers an area of three (03) hectares. According to the authorities, it will eventually create over 100 direct jobs and 5000 indirect jobs. This was made possible through financial contributions from Burkinabé citizens both within the country and abroad.

They enthusiastically supported the idea of community ownership as part of the entrepreneurship program launched on June 12 by the Head of State and the transitional government. Captain Ibrahim Traoré’s vision for local development is now becoming a reality and taking off.

On the eve of the official start of construction for the plant, transitional President Ibrahim Traoré met with the authorities of the Hauts-Bassins region, where the Tomato Processing Plant is located.

Led by Governor Mariam KONATE/GNANOU, the regional delegation expressed their appreciation to the Head of State for this commendable initiative and for choosing the Hauts-Bassins region as the site for this valuable project.

Earlier, Captain Ibrahim Traoré and his entourage were in the rice-growing plain of Koho Yabiro, in the municipality of Houndi, still in the Hauts-Bassins region. The Head of State went to encourage and congratulate the producers and the officials of the rice-growing plain for the work they have accomplished.

It’s worth noting that agriculture, a crucial driver of economic development, is one of the priorities of Burkina Faso’s transitional government. In this regard, the rice production sector, covering an area of 54 hectares, received improved seeds, fertilizers, and technical assistance from the country’s authorities for this campaign.

The support and encouragement of the transitional government are essential for the success of development projects and for achieving true economic independence in Burkina Faso.
