Togo/ The Togolese Government: A Pillar of Peace and Regional Mediation

On the margins of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, a meeting was held between the head of Togolese diplomacy, Robert Dussey, and Jean-Pierre Lacroix, the Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations.

This meeting is of paramount importance, particularly at a time when the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) was completing its mission at the request of the Malian authorities. This event underscores Togo’s invaluable role as a steadfast supporter of peace operations and mediation in regional crisis resolution.

Togo has always distinguished itself by its constant commitment to promoting peace and security in the world, especially in Africa. Since the creation of MINUSMA in Mali, Togo has been one of the first countries to contribute with a contingent of soldiers, police and health personnel.

The thousands of Togolese peacekeepers deployed in Mali have played a vital role in efforts to restore stability in that country. Unfortunately, some of them have sacrificed their lives in this noble mission, an act of dedication that cannot be sufficiently praised.

The recognition expressed by Jean-Pierre Lacroix, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, is an eloquent proof of the international appreciation of Togo’s crucial role in peacekeeping. Mr Lacroix warmly thanked Mr. Dussey for his country’s unwavering support to peace operations and mediations in resolving regional crises.

This recognition reflects Togo’s admiration for its commitment to peace, security and stability in the world.

The Togolese government, under the presidency of SEM. Faure Gnassingbé, is committed to peace operations and mediations in the resolution of regional conflicts. This exemplary contribution to global peace and security strengthens Togo’s position as a peaceful and responsible nation on the international stage.
