LIGA: REAL MADRID BEAT REAL SOCIEDAD 2-1 TO REGAIN THE LEAD IN THE LEAGUE

This Real Madrid is decidedly ruthless. On Matchday 5 of the 2023-2024 La Liga season, Casa Blanca came from behind to beat a valiant Real Sociedad 2-1 at home. Trailing at half-time, Madrid came back from the break with a much more winning mentality to continue their run of five wins in five games. Thanks to this perfect record, Real remain top of the table, two points ahead of arch-rivals Barcelona.

Trailing after Barrenetxea’s early opener (5th), Real Madrid overturned Real Sociedad thanks to goals from Valverde (46th) and Joselu (60th) to win 2-1 in front of their home fans. The win, their 5th in as many games, puts Carlo Ancelotti’s men back in the driving seat of La Liga, two points ahead of Barcelona. Real Sociedad are 11th.

Once ahead, Real were content to manage their lead. The introduction of Luka Modric and Eduardo Camavinga added to the composure in midfield. At the very end of the match, Jude Bellingham could have put an end to the suspense more quickly, but his double attempt failed to find the net (90′). No matter: Real are five points clear before kicking off their Champions League campaign against Union Berlin at the Santiago Bernabeu.
