Burkina-Faso: The Head of State concerned about the economy of his homeland

The Head of State is concerned about his country’s economy and was keen to meet representatives of traders and markets. The participants expressed their support for the transition and made a number of requests, including the creation of a microfinance system for merchants, vocational training and improvements to market infrastructures.

The representatives of the various markets, as well as the representatives of certain regions, shared their conviction as to the success of the mission of the President of the transition, which consists of reconquering the national territory, with the Head of State. They then spoke of the difficulties facing their sector, in particular customs harassment, the lack of security in certain markets and the insalubrious state of most markets.

The Head of State, aware of the negative impact of the security situation on traders’ activities, expressed his gratitude for their resilience and their support for him. He also thanked them for their contribution to the national economy. Captain Traoré then outlined the various initiatives undertaken under his leadership to improve the living conditions of the population.

After receiving the memorandum containing the traders’ grievances, the Head of State assured them that the transitional government was already working on projects to improve their living conditions, in particular through the ministry responsible for infrastructure. He also promised to carefully examine their concerns in order to find lasting solutions.

Finally, the Head of State invited traders to participate in popular shareholding via the Agency for the Promotion of Community Entrepreneurship (APEC). This initiative aims to encourage the participation of Burkinabe in the country’s major projects.
