TOGO : Queen of science and technology
The Honourable Abira Bonfoh‘s Asaal Foundation rewards young scientific talent The results of the « Queen of science and technology » competition, which pits young Togolese girls against each other in the field of science, were unveiled on Saturday 9 September 2023 at the Hôtel 2 février in Lomé in front of a host of special guests including international football icon Samuel Eto’o, the Representative of the 1st Lady of Congo and a distinguished delegation from Nice Town Hall in France.
The winner is Miss Akossiwa Akpagana (Year 10) with an average grade of 18.7. She won a cheque for 5 million FCFA and a trip to the Congo. Second prize went to Félicité POSSOLI, 1st duchess, with an average of 18.3. She won a cheque for 3 million FCFA. Miss DOGBE Abla, third duchess, received a cheque for 2 million FCFA.
The competition, organised by the Asaal Foundation, also rewarded the 12 other finalists, who each went home to their families with the sum of 500,000 francs.
This 2nd edition of the competition was a resounding success, both in terms of organisation and prizes, including those offered to each of the 15 finalists by the Mairie de Nice (France).
The winner of this 2nd edition expressed her satisfaction at this crowning achievement, which rewards her hard work. «Taking part in this competition and becoming the queen of science and technology is truly a great joy for me and a great honour. It’s a special moment in my life. In the future, I would like to become a university lecturer in applied mathematics, and later become President of the Republic» she enthused.
The President of the ASAAL Foundation, the Honourable Abira Bonfoh, took the opportunity to thank her guests, sponsors, partners and the large audience that had turned out to support this welcome initiative. She pledged to support these young, high-potential girls throughout their school career to help them achieve their dreams.
This 2nd edition was enriched by the presence of eminent personalities, distinguished guests from diverse backgrounds and a large audience. The evening honoured these young queens of science and technology, and through them, all the women who vibrated to the sound of the performances by slammers Kaporal Wisdom, Aida Nondowou and Wapondi.
The 2023 competition initially registered 200 students.
The Asaal Foundation has been working for several years to re-establish gender balance and equality in Togo. It offers young girls opportunities to break down stereotypes by stimulating a keen interest in science.
