Mali: The Malian army takes preventive action by dropping bombs on terrorists

The Malian army, in its drive to eradicate terrorists in their country, has carried out pre-emptive air strikes against terrorist groups preparing attacks in the Timbuktu region in the north of the country.

These troublemakers were putting pressure on the local population and were regrouping. The operation resulted in the destruction of a vehicle, the seizure of materials for making improvised explosive devices and a large quantity of ammunition.

Tensions in the region have risen since the gradual withdrawal of the UN Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), with rivalries between the Malian army and the Coordination des mouvements de l’Azawad (CMA, ex-Tuareg rebellion) over the transfer of UN camps to the Malian army.

But the handover of the Ber UN camp to the state in mid-August led to clashes between the army and the CMA, which accused the FAMa of carrying out air strikes on Anéfis (north) on 29 August. MINUSMA plans to withdraw completely by 31 December.
