Guinea: President Mamadi Doumbouya makes promoting economic and educational development his daily business

At the resumed Council of Ministers meeting on Thursday 31 August, members of the Guinean government and the President of the Transition, Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya, held important discussions on education and the Simandou project, the future of Guinea. The government spokesman underlined the importance of these subjects in his report.

With regard to the Simandou project, Ousmane Gaoual Diallo outlined its four components: the development of railways, port activities, mining activities and the processing industry, including a sawmill. He noted that these sectors will play a key role in accelerating the development of local content, with an emphasis on training, which will be strongly supported by the revenues generated by the project.

The Simandou project is also expected to catalyse other economic activities linked to local content, such as training, employment and the development of local activities. The agreement recently signed between Guinea and the project promoters included specific recommendations, which were discussed at the Council of Ministers.

With regard to education, the President of Guinea, Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya, sent a message to the ministers responsible for pre-university education, technical education and higher education. He asked them to present a report on the previous school and academic year in order to learn from the challenges encountered.

The aim is to improve the educational framework and the teaching of pupils by taking into account the dysfunctions observed during the past year. President Doumbouya placed particular emphasis on the fight against corruption, and urged the ministers to closely monitor the activities of their departments in order to improve governance.

These discussions within the Council of Ministers highlight the Guinean government’s commitment to promoting economic development and education in the country. The Simandou project represents a major opportunity to stimulate economic growth and strengthen local content, while the focus on education aims to improve the quality of teaching and combat corruption in the education sector. These initiatives reflect President Mamadi Doumbouya’s vision for the future of Guinea.
