Togo: August 25, 2022-August 25, 2023; one year of national sports day. What assessment?
Meeting in the Council of Ministers on August 25, 2022, the Togolese government, concerned about the well-being of the population, validated a monthly initiative: the establishment of a national sports day (JDS). Thus, every last Saturday of the month, Togolese are invited to do. The first edition of this day was held on September 24, 2023. It was launched by Prime Minister Victoire Tomegah Dogbé at the Kégué stadium, and everywhere throughout the national territory by representatives of the central power.
For the Togolese government, the idea is to promote the practice of sport, which is necessary in the prevention of certain diseases. This is to contribute to the development of the country. for the authorities, it is also a question of encouraging values such as living together and cohesion between populations.
Today, August 25, 2023, is the 1st anniversary of the establishment of this day. if it is necessary to draw up a small assessment of the initiative, it should be noted that the national sports day (JDS) had a favorable echo with the population; people of all ages, genders and social classes are increasingly interested in sport, aware ofits health benefits.Since the first edition, the Togolese invade the roads, sports fields and other free space, to run and practice physical exercises, such as cycling, stretching but also raising awareness on different themes.
For sports stakeholders, the national sports day initiated by the government has reinforced the efforts of mass sports associations working for the well-being of populations through physical and sports activities.
