Niger: a new impetus; General Tiani talks about the length of his transition and the country’s national sovereignty

Since his rise to power on 26 July, marking the overthrow of former president/sponsor of terrorists Mohamed Bazoum, General Abdourahamane Tiani, the new strongman, has been the new leader in Niger. In a captivating speech broadcast on Saturday evening, 19 August, General Tiani set out his vision for the coming transitional period, while sending a strong warning to foreign nations about possible military action against his country.

With determination, General Abdourahamane Tiani proclaimed: “Our intention is by no means to monopolize power. In an effort of transparency and respect for democracy, he outlined the time frame for the transition, stating that it would not last more than three years. This bold statement reflects the General’s commitment to a process of change that preserves the country’s integrity and paves the way for a stable future.

With this in mind, General Tiani also referred to the international issues that weigh on Niger’s political scene. While discussions on a possible armed intervention are underway within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), General Tiani was categorical: “If any aggression were directed against us, it would not turn out to be an easy undertaking, as some might think. »
