Niger: A Massive Gathering in Niamey in Support of the New Authorities of Niger

Over 30,000 people gathered in Niamey on Sunday, August 6, 2023, to express their solid support for the new authorities of Niger. An impressive rally in support of the National Council for the Safeguarding of the homeland (CNSP) took place at the Seyni Kountché Stadium in Niamey, in response to the call made by various organizations.

The stadium, with a capacity of over 30,000 seats, was literally overwhelmed, and the crowd even spilled outside its confines.

Faced with this massive turnout, the organizers were forced to temporarily interrupt the event to avoid any overflow or security issues.

A delegation representing the CNSP , led by General Tomba Mahamadou, was present to express gratitude to the population for their unwavering support.

This delegation also reaffirmed the commitment of the new authorities of Niger not to succumb to pressures or blackmail.

Indeed, this large-scale event demonstrates the determination of the Nigerien people to support the ongoing changes in the country.

It is worth noting that the ultimatum set by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) for the CNSP to reinstate President Mohamed Bazoum in his functions expired this Sunday.

The response of the Nigerien population to this regional challenge was evidently clear, thereby showcasing a strong sense of support for the new authorities.

This massive gathering in Niamey is a powerful evidence of unity and determination of the Nigerien people to support the decisions made by the new authorities of Niger.
