Burkina Faso President Ibrahim Traoré’s commitment to cultural and touristic development despite security challenges
Despite President Ibrahim Traoré’s ongoing fight against terrorism in Burkina Faso, the government is prioritizing the development of other key sectors of the economy. A striking example of this commitment is the official launch of the construction works for the National Museum’s leisure park, a major cultural and touristic project.
The Burkinabe government, recognizing the importance of culture and tourism in the country’s economic development, has allocated a substantial budget of five (5) billion CFA francs to this ambitious project.
During the groundbreaking ceremony for the leisure park, Colonel-Major Kassoum Coulibaly, the Minister of National Defense and Veterans, emphasized the state’s dedication to energizing and structuring the economy while promoting culture and tourism.
The modern leisure park, which is being constructed by a private Burkinabe company, aims to create jobs for the youth while providing a quality recreational space.
The project includes a covered amusement park spanning 4,500 square meters, a restaurant with a capacity of 350 seats, a pool, a water park, and a museum with over 600 seating places.
This initiative will also enhance the country’s cultural offerings and bolster the financial resources of the National Museum.
Minister of Communication, Culture, Arts, and Tourism, Jean-Emmanuel Ouédraogo, expressed delight at the realization of this project that has been carefully prepared over several years.
He highlighted the significance of this leisure park as a place of relaxation and entertainment for the citizens of Burkina Faso, particularly those in Ouagadougou.
The project will also be a major asset for the National Museum, which has been dedicated to the collection, preservation, and promotion of Burkina Faso’s heritage since 1962.
The project’s promoter, Mathieu Ouédraogo, a compatriot living in Morocco, expressed enthusiasm about bringing his idea of constructing a leisure park to life.
His project aims to give a new dimension to the National Museum by expanding its infrastructure to attract more visitors and generate additional revenue for the museum.
This initiative demonstrates that despite security challenges, President Ibrahim Traoré and his government will continue to support significant and ambitious projects in other sectors of the economy.
It reflects the government’s determination to diversify the country’s sources of income and promote cultural development while combating terrorism.
The National Museum’s leisure park project showcases that considering other essential economic sectors is possible even during times of conflict.
