Burkina Faso: The African Youth submit their ten commitments for development and the fight against insecurity to the Head of State

On Monday morning, the President of the Transition and Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traore, received a delegation from the Association for the Promotion of African Integration (APIA in French) in an audience. The delegation was led by its president, Hassane Billy OUATTARA.

As the organizer of the International Forum of African Youth in Ouagadougou (FIJAO in French), the association came to present to the Head of State the ten commitments made by the youth during the event, which brought together young people from ten African countries.

«Our purpose was to present these commitments to the Head of State, to inform him of the responsibilities we have undertaken, and what we will concretely do on the ground to contribute to the fight against insecurity in the Sahel», said Hassane Billy OUATTARA, who is also the chairman of the FIJAO organizing committee.

United around the values of solidarity, mutual assistance, living together harmoniously, and dynamism in work, the youth intend to play their part in resolving the issues that plague the continent and in their full participation in Africa’s development.

To do so, they have committed,

following the Forum, to strengthening frameworks for improving patriotic culture and civic-mindedness, promoting a culture of integrity among young people and the virtues of good governance, conducting activities to promote entrepreneurship and financial education, and encouraging social and solidarity entrepreneurship.

According to the President of the FIJAO Organizing Committee, over the course of one year and throughout Africa, young people will also work on enhancing civic engagement, providing guidance and direction to young people in their political involvement, promoting female leadership and equal opportunities in all sectors of development.

The youth have also pledged to engage in the fight against gender-based violence and promote sexual and reproductive health. They aim to raise awareness among young people about their participation in the fight against insecurity and terrorism, and to act in favor of living together and social cohesion.

The President of the Transition commended the African youth for their willingness to contribute to the ongoing fight against terrorism and the development of the continent.

He encouraged and congratulated the young people for their commitment and assured them of his support.
