The President of the Transition and Head of State, Captain Ibrahim TRAORE, received the Ombudsman of Burkina Faso, Mrs. Fatimata SANOU/TOURE, in audience on Friday morning. Leading a delegation, the Ombudsman of Burkina Faso took the opportunity to present the activity reports for 2021 and 2022 of her institution to the Head of State.

These reports provide an overview of the handling of complaint cases, major events that have marked the life of the institution, and the various reflections undertaken in 2021 and 2022.

According to the reports, the Ombudsman of Burkina Faso received 746 complaint cases from 6,286 complainants in 2021, compared to 840 complaint cases from 11,033 complainants in 2022.

According to Mrs. Fatimata SANOU/TOURE, « During these two years, the Ombudsman of Burkina Faso has advocated for social cohesion and improved living conditions».

This includes advocacy for strengthening the fight against terrorism, advocating for the reopening of the Philippe Zinda Kaboré High School, advocating for the renovation of the Nelson Mandela High School.

In terms of self-referral, the Ombudsman of Burkina Faso also addressed the 2022 crisis at the Nazi Boni University and the crisis following the restoration project of the minaret of the Grand Mosque of Dioulassoba, stated Mrs. Fatimata SANOU/TOURE.

« His Excellency congratulated us for the work accomplished and urged us to further address the various community conflicts that undermine our country», stated the Ombudsman of Burkina Faso following the meeting with the President of the Transition.

« Despite the efforts of the Ombudsman of Burkina Faso, we have noticed in 2022 a slow response from the administration to our inquiries», emphasized the Ombudsman of Burkina Faso. Indeed, there was a 66% response rate in 2021 compared to 52% in 2022.

In this regard, «we made a plea to the Head of State to urge the administration to be more responsive and expedite matters for the sake of the Ombudsman of Burkina Faso», stated Mrs. Fatimata SANOU/TOURE.
