Burkina Faso/ AfDB: A working session to harmonize the new priorities

Colonel Boukaré ZOUNGRANA, Minister of Territorial Administration, Decentralization, and Security, participated on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, in Ouagadougou in a high-level meeting between the Burkinabe Government and the African Development Bank (AfDB). The meeting was presided over by Dr. Aboubakar NACANABO, Minister of Economy, Finance, and Prospective.

This working session between the AfDB and the sectoral ministries of the Burkinabe Government aimed to discuss and align the new priorities of the Transition as defined in the Action Plan for Stabilization and Development (PA-SD in french) 2023-2025, with the Bank’s work program for the same period.

«This meeting offers us the opportunity to analyze our cooperation in order to formulate new strategic directions to strengthen the resilience of Burkina Faso and envision the future with serenity», said Dr. Aboubakar NACANABO, Minister of Economy, Finance, and Prospective.

In the presence of government members, the AfDB team, led by its Country Representative in Burkina Faso, Mr. Daniel NDOYE, first presented the strategic orientations of the Bank’s intervention in the country.

Then, they reviewed the cooperation program for the 2023-2025 period and finally, they discussed the portfolio, exploring ways to improve its performance.

Mr. Daniel NDOYE took advantage of this meeting to congratulate the Burkinabe government for its constant diligence and commitment in implementing projects and programs financed by the AfDB.

The Minister of Finance, Dr. Aboubakar NACANABO, announced that, following the discussions, they will establish a monitoring committee for cooperation with the AfDB to ensure close monitoring of recommendations and the implementation of projects and programs in the relevant ministries.

To date, the active portfolio of the AfDB in Burkina Faso consists of twenty-one (21) development projects and programs, with a total amount of approximately 500 billion CFA francs. The AfDB is involved in various sectors of development, including infrastructure, agriculture, energy, environment, water supply, sanitation, and humanitarian action.
